Grading

Frequently, the grading around the outside perimeter of a house needs to be corrected. If the elevation of the soil around the house is lower against the foundation, water will move towards the house and may result in a wet basement. To correct this problem, topsoil needs to be added around the foundation. The grade of the soil must be higher against the foundation, so water runs away from the house. Grading can be complicated when a patio, stoop or walkway is causing water to run towards the foundation. This may require replacing the patio, stoop or walkway with one that is properly pitched away from the house.
